Leonardo was hard-working, following a personal philosophy that "one has no right to love or to hate anything if one has not acquired a thorough knowledge of its nature." He was immensely talented. Many described him as handsome. Success seemed to be finding him everywhere. And in 1472, at just twenty years old, Leonardo's growing reputation led to a significant artistic milestone. He was accepted into the Guild of Saint Luke, Florence’s professional association for painters and medical doctors.
