Intro

People called her Miss Morgan. 

And Miss Morgan was just five feet tall, slender, dressed in drab, fragile looking. "She looked like a nobody," some people said. When she spoke, she did so quietly. Though her tone carried the decisive authority of a drill sergeant.

While she may have dressed and spoken as she did, Miss Morgan was determined, hard-working, talented, focused, amongst other characteristics. All these qualities would lead her down a path of much success and fame. The world would know her and remember her as a great architect. But to friends and family, Miss Morgan was just Julia.

Early Years & Education

Julia Morgan was born in San Francisco, California, in 1872 and grew up in nearby Oakland in a prosperous family. Her mother hailed from wealth, which would help Julia with opportunities. Though, arguably, what helped even more was her mother's encouragement for her daughter to become educated and achieve.
