Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman risked her life time and again for the betterment of enslaved people and people in general. It was almost as if the desire to help was for her innate. From early years through the latter, often at great peril to herself, Harriet lived a life of service while embodying resilience and courage with her actions.
Harriet's life began sometime around 1822 under the harsh realities of enslavement. She experienced many tribulations, including working from the age of six, watching family members sold, and the horrific punishments she and her fellow enslaved people endured. As one biographer wrote, "Harriet's poor neck is even now covered with scars." Yet, while seeing and experiencing this all, her determination to help others began early.
